As a five-time National Boxing Champion and seven-time World Champion Kickboxer, Daniel ‘The Rock’ Dawson is hungrier than ever for a world title in a rematch against South African Virgil Kalakoda in Perth on Friday 9 December.
Vying for the World Boxing Association (WBA) regional belts of the Pan Asian and Pan African Titles, two of Australia’s most currently fierce and competitive fighters will go head-to-head on Western Alliance 6 Show in what promises to be an exciting revenge re-match.
“Successfully winning these two titles would give me status of champion of half of the world and a number five world ranking in the WBA,” says Dawson, whose win would thrust him into the top six among the WBA’s official rankings.
With a clash between the pair back in July, Dawson dominated the first half of the fight with Kalakoda but succumbed to fatigue in the final rounds. His draw with Kalakoda has only steeled his resolve to come back better than ever.
“It’s a very exciting time and stepping stone for me and I am just bursting with happiness and pride to see my dreams and goals coming closer” says Dawson, who has 36 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw to his name.
A victory for Dawson against Kalakoda would also give him the credibility to challenge current World Champions in the USA where he is hoping to secure a fight next year.
“This opportunity is as big as anything Green and Mundine has done in the sport!” declares Dawson. “I have more character, more passion and I have better rapport with the community than either of them.”
In the co-feature bout undefeated Light Heavyweight Andrew Green (7-0-0) will fight the awkward style of Kashif Mumtaz (8-27-1) who was born in Pakistan and now resides in New Zealand. Green is favourite to win but one can't forget the upset Mumtaz caused earlier this year when he stopped Les Sherrington in the first round.
On the undercard:
- Lucas "Big Daddy" Browne 9-0 (8 KO's) will take on Fai Falamoe in a rematch from their WBF Asia Pacific Heavyweight title fight in September where Browne won with a 5th round knockout. No titles will be on the line this time with the bout over 6 rounds instead of the scheduled 10 last time.
- Luke Sharp (2-0-0) will clash with John Argus (1-0-0) over 4 rounds at Super Middleweight.
- In the opening fight Wes Capper will make his debut against Daniel Roy Maxwell who is also in his first professional fight. The bout will be over 4 rounds at Middleweight.
The fights will be held at the WA Italian Club, 219 Fitzgerald St. Perth on Friday 9 December. Doors open at 6pm with six professional boxing bouts starting at 7pm. To purchase tickets, contact CDL Boxing Promotions on 0422 787 445 or visit www.cdlboxing.com.au.
